Upon arriving in Reykjavík and settling into your Reykjavík accommodation, take a stroll along Laugavegur, the city's main thoroughfare, where various shops and charming cafes await. Reykjavík, known as ‘Steamy Cove’ due to its geothermal activity, is a bustling city rich in culture and vibrant nightlife, proudly home to the world’s oldest parliament, the Alþingi.
Reykjavík, with its modest population of 200,000 in the Greater Reykjavík area, which accounts for two-thirds of Iceland’s total population, offers stunning views of mountains and the Atlantic Ocean from nearly every angle. In the summertime, experience the unique phenomenon of the midnight sun at the harbor, where the sun barely sets before rising again. The city is notable for its numerous geothermal wells, ensuring residents enjoy affordable central heating and a smoke-free environment.
