This policy covers fartravel.is and the information FAR Travel ehf. uses when you enquire about or book travel with us. Our day-tour licence also lists the trading names FAR and FAR Iceland Travel.
01 · Information
What we collect, and why
We collect information you give us, details passed to us by booking partners, and technical information generated when you use the website.
Enquiries & package quotes
Your name, email address and message help us answer your enquiry. For a package quote, we also receive the selected package and any travel month, date flexibility, adult and child numbers, accommodation preferences or notes you provide. Forms record browser information with the submission.
Why: to reply, prepare a quote and help plan your trip. We rely on steps you ask us to take before a contract, performance of a contract, or our legitimate interest in answering general enquiries.
Bookings & payments
Our Bókun booking widgets and the relevant operator collect the details needed for your chosen experience. These can include traveller names, contact details, ages, pickup location and booking preferences. Payment providers process your payment; our website does not store full payment-card details.
Why: to complete and deliver your booking (performance of a contract), and keep the accounting records required by law (legal obligation).
Travel stories & offers
Newsletter signups include your email address and where on the site you signed up. We use them to send FAR Travel stories and offers, with your consent. Use the unsubscribe link in a marketing email or contact us to stop receiving them.
Restaurant reservations
If you follow a Dineout reservation link, we pass your selected date, time and number of guests to Dineout so you can continue there. This is a step you request before making a reservation. Any further details you enter on Dineout are covered by its privacy information and the restaurant’s own responsibilities.
What you need to provide. Contact forms need a name, email and message so we can respond. Package quotes need a name, email and chosen package; the other trip details help us tailor the reply. Booking requirements depend on the experience. If essential details are missing, we may be unable to answer or complete the booking. Newsletter signup is optional.
03 · Advertising
Advertising & remarketing
This website carries Google Ads tags, loaded through Google Tag Manager alongside the analytics described above. They do two things: measure whether a visit that began with one of our ads ended in a booking, and add your browser to remarketing audiences, which allow FAR Travel ads to be shown to you afterwards on Google Search, YouTube and sites in Google’s advertising network.
Your cookie choice decides what those tags may do. Advertising storage is switched off until you accept.
If you accept
Google may set and read advertising cookies in your browser and receive your ad click identifier, pages viewed, booking events including their value and currency, your IP address and browser details, and an approximate location. Google may use this to attribute a booking to an ad, to build and apply remarketing audiences, and — where Google Signals or GA4 audiences apply to your Google account — to connect that activity to it. Ads shown to you may be personalised on this basis.
Why: to measure whether our advertising works and to reach people who have shown an interest in our trips. We rely on your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.
If you choose “Necessary only”, or have not chosen yet
No advertising cookies are set, no remarketing audience is built, and ads are not personalised using your activity here. Google tags still send limited cookieless measurement under denied consent. This can include page views, catalogue interactions, accepted enquiry or newsletter events, and booking events, together with browser and request information such as your IP address. Declining optional storage does not mean that no measurement requests are sent.
Change your advertising choice
The same control as the cookie banner. Your choice is saved for this browser.
Withdrawing consent stops further advertising storage and personalisation from this website. It does not erase what has already been sent to Google, and it does not change settings held in your own Google account. You control those separately in Google My Ad Center, and you can ask us to help with a request under your rights.
What changed on 19 September 2026. These tags have been present since before this website was rebuilt, but our own security policy refused every request they made, so the advertising beacons described above did not reach Google. That restriction was removed on 19 September 2026, so the tags can now send. We are recording that here rather than leaving a measurement change undisclosed.
05 · Retention
How long we keep information
The period depends on the record, why it is needed and any legal obligation to keep it. Unsubscribing or changing a browser setting does not automatically delete earlier records.
- Accounting records & supporting documents
- Seven years from the end of the relevant financial year, under Article 20 of Iceland’s Accounting Act No. 145/1994.
- Enquiries & quote requests
- For the time needed to handle the enquiry and follow-up, taking account of a resulting booking, any unresolved complaint and legal obligations.
- Newsletter records
- Used for marketing until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent. The original signup record can remain after marketing stops. You can request its deletion; information needed to respect your choice or meet legal obligations may be retained.
- Analytics & technical records
- Retention varies by provider, record type and the period needed to assess site use, investigate errors and maintain security. Contact us for details relevant to your information.

06 · Your choices
Your information. Your rights.
The GDPR and Icelandic Act No. 90/2018 give you rights over your personal data, subject to the conditions in those laws.
- Access it. Ask what information we hold and request a copy.
- Correct it. Ask us to put inaccurate or incomplete information right.
- Delete it. Request erasure where there is no legal reason to keep it.
- Limit or object to its use. Ask to restrict processing or object where the law allows.
- Move it. Request a portable copy where this right applies.
- Change your mind. Withdraw consent, including for marketing, at any time.
Make a privacy request
Tell us what you would like to access or change. We may need enough information to verify your identity, but please do not send an identity document unless we explain why it is needed and how to provide it.

We respond without undue delay and within one month. Complex or numerous requests can require up to two additional months; we will explain an extension within the first month. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before you withdrew it. You can object to direct marketing at any time.
You can complain to Iceland’s Data Protection Authority, Persónuvernd, or the relevant supervisory authority where you live or work in the EEA. You do not need to contact us first to make a complaint.
07 · Taking care
Sharing information safely
Our website uses HTTPS to protect information in transit. Please use the booking payment flow for card details, and avoid putting card numbers, passwords or passport copies in a general enquiry. If your trip needs health or accessibility information, contact us first to discuss what is necessary and how to share it.
Travelling with children
The website is intended for adults arranging travel. If children are joining a trip, the booking provider may need their names or ages to arrange the experience and apply the correct rates. Our quote form can record the number of children in your party. Please provide only the details needed for the trip.
