About Hólmavík Swimming Pool

Hólmavík Swimming Pool is the public swimming pool of Hólmavík, the main village on the Strandir coast of the Westfjords. It sits in the town sports centre at Jakobínutún 3, next to the Hólmavík campsite and a short walk from the harbour, the shop and the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft.

The outdoor pool is 25 metres long, with two hot tubs, a shallow wading pool for small children and a steam bath. It is a local community pool rather than a spa, so expect lanes, families and regulars, and a quiet, practical place to warm up after a day on the road or on the hiking trails of Strandir. As at every Icelandic pool, you must shower without a swimsuit before entering the water.

For travellers, the pool is most useful as a stop on the drive between the Westfjords and the Ring Road, or as the evening soak for anyone staying at the campsite next door. It also works well before heading north into Bjarnarfjörður, where the small Gvendarlaug hot pool at Laugarhóll is the next place to bathe.

In summer the pool is open daily from 09:00 to 21:00. Winter hours are shorter, especially at weekends, and the published schedules differ between sources, so check with the pool before a winter visit. In strong winds or severe cold, the main pool can close while the hot tubs and steam bath stay open.

Adult admission is 1,325 ISK. Children aged 6 to 17, seniors and disabled visitors pay 495 ISK. Swimsuits and towels can be rented for 725 ISK each. The front desk can be reached on 451 3560.
