Planning your private Iceland trip
Start with your route and time
A private departure gives your party its own booking, but the route and time available still matter. The Golden Circle, South Coast and Snæfellsnes are different full-day choices from Reykjavík. A short activity that meets on location can fit a self-drive itinerary; a long drive to the glacier lagoon needs considerably more time. Check the published duration and departure point rather than combining distant stops on the assumption that a private vehicle makes them close together.
Match the activity to everyone travelling
Tell us the number of adults and children, the children’s ages and any mobility or walking considerations. Private does not mean that a glacier hike, a strenuous waterfall trail or a hot spring has no age or access restrictions. Each operator sets its own requirements. If a requirement is unclear, ask before paying rather than relying on the word “family” in a tour title.
Compare the whole-group cost
Use the tour’s booking calendar to check your dates and full party size. A card may show a per-person from-price based on a minimum number of travellers; it is not necessarily the total for the vehicle. Compare admission, equipment, meals and pickup as well as the headline amount. Optional activities can require advance reservations and extra payment, even when the main tour is private.
Ask for changes before booking
If you want a different start time, extra stop or a trip over several days, include it in your enquiry. Flexibility depends on the operator, driving distances, daylight, weather and access. A published private tour is not a promise that any route change is included. We can help you compare a listed departure with a tailored plan and explain what would need a separate quote.
Private tour questions
Is a private tour the same as a small-group tour?
No. A private tour is booked for your own party. A small-group departure can include other travellers. Check the individual tour description for the arrangement, vehicle capacity and any shared activities at stops.
Can we change a private tour itinerary?
Ask before booking. Some tours allow changes within the booked time, while others have fixed reservations or routes. Extra distance, admission or activities may change the price. Weather and access can also change the plan.
Can children join a private tour?
It depends on the activity and operator. Tell us every child’s age and check the minimum age on the tour page. A private booking does not remove safety rules for glacier hikes, bathing or other activities.
What should I include in a custom-trip enquiry?
Send your travel dates, number of adults and children with their ages, starting location, interests, preferred pace and approximate budget. Mention any accessibility needs and activities you want included. Your enquiry does not reserve or pay for a tour.
Is the displayed from-price the price for our whole group?
Not necessarily. Some tours display a per-person starting price with a minimum-party qualifier. Enter your dates and complete party in the booking calendar to check the total and inclusions. A tailored itinerary is priced separately.
