About Kolaportið
Kolaportið is Reykjavík's indoor weekend flea market, on the ground floor of the old customs house at Tryggvagata 19, between downtown and the Old Harbor. It has run here since 1989, and the building is easy to spot from the large mosaic mural on its Tryggvagata side.
More than 50 vendors set up each weekend, selling vintage clothing, vinyl records, books, antiques and hand-knitted lopapeysa sweaters next to tables of bric-a-brac and souvenirs. Used wool sweaters here often cost less than new ones in the Laugavegur shops, though finding the right size takes patience. Go early if you want first pick of the vintage racks.
The food corner is where Kolaportið earns its place on a Reykjavík itinerary. Small Icelandic producers sell harðfiskur (dried fish), fermented shark, home-baked bread and Icelandic candy, so you can taste a few traditional foods without committing to a full restaurant meal.
Kolaportið flea market is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 17:00 and closed on weekdays. Most people spend 30 minutes to an hour inside. Harpa is about a five-minute walk away, which makes the market an easy add-on to a weekend stroll around the harbor and the old town.
