Lýsulaugar
About Lýsulaugar
Lýsulaugar is a mineral-water bath at Lýsuhóll in Staðarsveit, on the south side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The water comes from a natural mineral spring and no chlorine is added. The water is naturally rich in green algae (chlorella) and minerals, which gives the pool its green colour.
The complex has one large pool, two hot tubs and a cold tub, renovated in 2019, with water temperatures of about 24–35°C depending on the pool. From the pools you can see Snæfellsjökull glacier. There are showers, and towels and swimsuits can be rented.
Lýsuhóll is on the southern Snæfellsnes coast road, about two and a quarter hours' drive from Reykjavík. It fits easily into a day on the peninsula: Ytri Tunga beach, where seals often haul out, and the black church at Búðir are both within about 10 km.
Latest published prices are 1,800 ISK for adults aged 17 and over, 500 ISK for ages 10–16, and 700 ISK for seniors and disabled visitors; children under 10 enter free but must be with someone aged 15 or over. Towel and swimsuit rental are 500 ISK each.
Lýsulaugar is mainly a summer bath, open daily from about mid-May to the end of August, typically 11:00–21:00. Sources differ on the exact dates and hours. In winter the pool is used for school swimming, and occasional weekend openings are announced on its Facebook page, so check there before visiting outside summer.
