Neslaug

About Neslaug

Neslaug is the small village swimming pool in Árnes, in the Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur district of South Iceland. It lies just off Route 32, the road that runs up the Þjórsá valley towards Þjórsárdalur, a short drive from Flúðir and about 100 km east of Reykjavík.

The pool is 12.5 metres long and 12.5 metres wide, with a hot tub beside it. Around it are the community centre, a sports field, a football pitch and a playground, and there is a campsite and a hostel next door. It is a quiet local pool rather than a lagoon, which makes it a cheap and uncrowded place to swim and soak for families, campers and anyone driving to or from Þjórsárdalur, Háifoss or the highland roads.

The best time to visit is summer, when the pool opens every day and the campsite is busy. From 1 September 2026 to 31 May 2027 the pool runs a winter timetable and is open only on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00, closed on weekdays. Summer hours are set each year by the municipality, so check them before travelling in June to August, and confirm holiday opening in advance.

Adult admission is 1,500 ISK. Visitors aged 11 to 18, seniors aged 67 and over and disabled visitors pay 500 ISK, and children aged 10 and under swim free. A 10-visit adult card costs 9,900 ISK. Towels and swimsuits can be rented, and the pool can be contacted on 486 6117. As at all Icelandic pools, you must shower without a swimsuit before getting in.
