About Raufarhöfn Swimming Pool

Raufarhöfn Swimming Pool is the small indoor pool in the sports centre (Íþróttamiðstöð Raufarhafnar) on Skólabraut in Raufarhöfn, the fishing village on the Melrakkaslétta peninsula in the far north-east of Iceland. It is run by Norðurþing municipality and is the only pool in the village.

The building has an indoor pool, changing rooms, a sauna, a sports hall and a small gym. It is a basic community facility rather than a leisure pool, but after a day at the Arctic Henge stone circle above the village, or on the long drive round the Melrakkaslétta coast, it is the only place nearby to swim and warm up.

Public swimming hours are limited and are announced by the municipality and on the pool's Facebook page. Recently listed hours were 14:00–19:30 on weekdays and 12:00–16:30 at weekends in summer, and 17:00–19:30 on weekdays and 14:00–16:30 on Saturday in winter, but check the current timetable before you go. Key-card holders can enter the building from 06:00 to 22:00 every day, but the pool, changing rooms and sauna are closed for safety outside the advertised swimming hours; key cards are sold at the town hall on weekdays.

Under the Norðurþing tariff in force from 1 January 2026, a single adult entry costs 1,300 ISK and an adult ten-visit card 7,100 ISK. Children aged 6–17 pay 520 ISK and visitors aged 67 and over pay 780 ISK. The village campsite is about a kilometre away.
