Unreasonably high cleaning fee – 100,000 ISK for a forgotten party tent and some crumbs We recently stayed at the Árnes campsite and were very surprised and disappointed to receive a 100,000 ISK (approx. 700$)cleaning fee after we left. Yes, we did forget a small party tent and there were a few snack crumbs on the ground — and for that, I would absolutely understand a modest cleaning fee, maybe around 10,000 ISK. But charging us ten times that amount feels completely unfair and excessive. There was no warning, no opportunity to come back and clean up ourselves — just a huge fine and a photo showing a very minor mess. For a campsite, this level of strictness and the amount charged seem unreasonable. We respected the area, didn’t cause any damage, and genuinely thought we left it in decent shape. I would recommend others think twice before staying here unless you’re okay with potentially being charged heavily for small oversights. The photo shows the “mess” we left
Great camping area, electricity, WC, showers. restaurant with a gas station.
Looks completely abandoned. Showers closed with screws , toilets looks like there hasn’t been anyone to cleanup in many many months. Strangely there is hot water and a heated toilet area. Ok to stay one night, but don’t expect anything remotely clean/maintained.
