About Vík Swimming Pool
Vík Swimming Pool is the public pool in Vík í Mýrdal, the southernmost village on Iceland's mainland and a standard overnight stop on the south coast. It is run by the municipality of Mýrdalshreppur at the sports centre on Mánabraut 3, a few minutes' walk from the village centre and the Ring Road.
The pool is outdoors. The main pool is 16.7 metres long and kept at about 28–29°C, and there is a separate children's pool at 37–38°C. There is a hot tub at 40–42°C, a cold tub and a sauna. It is a small village pool without slides or spa extras, but it is a practical place to warm up after a windy day at Reynisfjara, Dyrhólaey or on Sólheimajökull glacier.
Vík is about 180 km east of Reykjavík. Reynisfjara black sand beach is roughly 10 km away by road on the west side of Reynisfjall, and Dyrhólaey a little further. The next public pool to the east is at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, about 70 km away.
The national pool directory lists opening hours of 08:30–20:00 on weekdays and 12:00–18:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, and swimmers are asked to leave the water 15 minutes before closing. The municipality does not currently publish hours on its own page, so contact the sports centre before making a special trip, particularly on public holidays.
The most recent published tariff (2025) lists adult entry at 1,500 ISK and 550 ISK for children aged 6–16, with free entry for seniors resident in Iceland; prices for 2026 were not published at the time of writing. Towels and swimsuits can be rented for 1,250 ISK each.
