Café Riis is a cozy and historic restaurant in the center of Hólmavík, found at Hafnarbraut 39. It has been welcoming guests since 1996, but the building itself has a much longer story. Built in 1897, it is the oldest building in town and has been an important part of Hólmavík’s history, from the early trading days to modern times. Eating here feels a bit like stepping into the past, while still enjoying the comfort of a warm and friendly restaurant.
The food at Café Riis is made with care, using fresh and high-quality ingredients from the surrounding area. The menu features classic Icelandic dishes, with fresh fish from the nearby waters and lamb from local farms, giving visitors a true taste of the region.
One of the highlights is their famous pizzas, which are unique to this restaurant and loved by both locals and travelers. The atmosphere is relaxed, making it a nice place to enjoy lunch or dinner after exploring the Westfjords. For larger groups of more than eight guests, it’s best to book in advance by emailing caferiis@caferiis.is or calling +354 451 3567.
