Fjörukráin is a charming restaurant in Hafnarfjörður inside one of the town’s oldest buildings. The house was built in 1841 and is the second oldest in Hafnarfjörður, giving the place a unique and historic character. On the ground floor, there is comfortable seating for 36 guests, while the upper floor, set under a sloping roof, has a cozy barrel-style corner where you can enjoy a cocktail before dinner or a sweet treat afterward. Upstairs also has a small private room for up to 12 guests, perfect for groups who want a more intimate space.
An open doorway connects the restaurant to Valhalla, an elegant dining area decorated with wood from century-old snuff and wine barrels. The walls downstairs are painted with beautiful artwork, including scenes of Hafnarfjörður by Lukas Gucio Gordon and a depiction of the Norse gods’ feast by Elísa Ósk Viðarsdóttir. The menu features Icelandic dishes with vegetarian choices, and guests can enjoy outdoor seating when the weather is nice, as well as live music on certain evenings.
Fjörukráin is more than just a place to eat — it’s a mix of history, art, and Icelandic hospitality that makes it worth visiting more than once. For groups larger than nine people, bookings can be made by emailing birna@fjorukrain.is or calling +354 565-1213.
