Slippurinn is a family-run restaurant in the Westman Islands, set in an old machinery workshop that once served the local shipyard. Today, it’s a place where history meets food, with the building’s past adding character to every visit. The owners, Gísli Matt, Katrín, and Auðunn, are passionate about their home and work hard to share the flavors of the islands with everyone who comes through the door.
The menu changes with the seasons and is built around ingredients from the islands and nearby waters. Local fishermen, farmers, and small producers supply much of what’s used in the kitchen. Wild herbs and seaweeds are foraged on the island, and the rest of the herbs are grown by the team themselves. The cooking combines traditional Icelandic methods with modern ideas, creating dishes that are fresh, full of flavor, and connected to the place they come from.
