About Blönduós Swimming Pool

Blönduós Swimming Pool is the public pool of Blönduós, a small town on the Ring Road in Northwest Iceland where the glacial river Blanda meets Húnaflói bay. It is part of the town sports centre at Melabraut 2, a few minutes from Route 1, which makes it one of the easiest pool stops on the long drive between Reykjavík and Akureyri.

The outdoor pool measures 25 by 8.5 metres and is surrounded by hot tubs, a cold plunge, a wading pool and two large water slides, with play equipment for children. The water is treated with a salt-based chlorine system produced on site. The same building has a gym and a large sports hall. The slides make it popular with families, and it is a good place to break up a day of driving or to finish an evening after walking along the Blanda river or out to the island of Hrútey.

Published summer hours for 2026 are Monday to Friday 08:00–21:00 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00–20:00. The winter timetable is not published online, so check with the sports centre outside the summer season. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing, and swimmers should leave the building within 15 minutes of closing time.

Under the 2026 tariff, adult entry for ages 18 and over is 1,560 ISK. Children aged 8 to 18, seniors and disabled visitors pay 780 ISK. Ten-visit cards are also sold. The sports centre can be reached on 455 4780. As at every Icelandic pool, you must shower without a swimsuit before entering the water.
