Elephant Rock was a stop on our afternoon bus tour around Heimaey. It's close to a challenging golf course by the cliffs. Our guide explained that this basalt rock formation was created by a volcanic eruption of Mt Eldfell over 15,000 years ago. The rock looks like a wrinkly elephant head dipping its trunk into the ocean.
Beautiful scenery. Watch out for golfers
Elephant rock is a unique basalt rock formation on the island of Heimaey that is shaped like an elephant surrounded by other sea cliffs and it is amazing to see. It is very easy to view and to capture that perfect picture. It is located by a beautiful golf course.
