Glerárlaug

About Glerárlaug

Glerárlaug is a municipal swimming pool in the Glerárhverfi district of Akureyri, north of the Glerá river. It is the smaller of the town's two pools: the main pool is indoors, about 16.7 metres long, and is used heavily for swimming lessons, while the hot tubs and other facilities are outside. It is a quieter alternative to the larger outdoor Akureyri Swimming Pool.

Outside there are two hot tubs, a wading pool, a cold tub and a sauna. The changing rooms are wheelchair accessible and a hoist serves the pool.

The pool is at Höfðahlíð, about 2.3 km or five minutes by car from central Akureyri. The Forest Lagoon is about 4 km away across the fjord, and the Eyjafjarðarsveit pool at Hrafnagil is about 13 km south.

Adult entry is 1,400 ISK and ages 6–17 pay 310 ISK. Disabled visitors with a valid card swim free. Towels or swimsuits can be rented for 1,040 ISK, or 2,690 ISK for entry with both. The same price list applies at the Akureyri Swimming Pool, and no booking is needed.

Winter hours, from 24 August to 2 June, are weekdays 06:45–08:00 and 18:00–21:00, and weekends 09:00–14:30. Summer hours, from 3 June to 23 August, are weekdays 06:45–21:00 and weekends 09:00–14:30. The pool is closed during the middle of winter weekdays, so plan an early morning or evening visit.
