Grindavík Swimming Pool

About Grindavík Swimming Pool

Grindavík Swimming Pool is the municipal pool at the sports centre on Austurvegur in Grindavík, the fishing town on the south coast of the Reykjanes peninsula, a few kilometres from the Blue Lagoon. It opened on 9 April 1994 and is run by Grindavík municipality.

The facilities are a 25 by 12.5 metre outdoor pool, two hot tubs (one with massage jets), a children's pool with water-play features and a water slide. It is a straightforward local pool, used by residents rather than tour groups, and an alternative to the nearby commercial lagoons.

Grindavík was evacuated in November 2023 because of the Sundhnúkur eruptions, and the town remains at an uncertainty level under Iceland's civil protection system. The municipality says it welcomes visitors, but services are still limited. The sports facility timetable currently published is Monday 16:00–21:00, Tuesday to Friday 08:00–13:00 and Saturday 12:00–17:00, and in winter the pool and gym also open 17:00–19:00 on home basketball match days. The municipality notes that pool hours can change with the season and conditions.

Admission prices are not published online. Because opening depends on the local situation, phone the sports centre before driving to Grindavík, and check current road access and any hazard notices for the Reykjanes peninsula. If the pool is closed, Stapalaug in Reykjanesbær and the pool in Vogar are the nearest alternatives.
