About Grundarfjörður Swimming Pool
Grundarfjörður Swimming Pool is part of the town sports centre at Borgarbraut 19 in Grundarfjörður, on the north coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Kirkjufell, the most photographed mountain on the peninsula, is about 3 km west of town, so the pool is a convenient place to warm up after an evening at Kirkjufellsfoss.
It is a small outdoor pool, 16.67 metres long, with a children's pool, two hot tubs and a sauna. The main pool and children's pool are only open in the summer season, from 1 May to 30 September. The hot tubs are open all year, so in winter you can still soak but not swim laps.
Summer hours are 07:00–21:00 Monday to Thursday, 07:00–23:00 on Friday and 10:00–18:00 at weekends. From 1 October to 30 April the hot tubs open 08:00–21:00 on weekdays and 13:00–17:00 on Saturday, and are closed on Sunday. The late Friday opening in summer is useful if you arrive on the peninsula in the evening.
Under the tariff in force from 1 January 2026, a single adult ticket costs 1,200 ISK, children aged 10–17 pay 400 ISK and children under 10 swim free. Seniors and disabled visitors pay the reduced rate, and ten-visit, 30-visit and annual cards are sold. The campsite in Grundarfjörður is a few hundred metres away, and Ólafsvík's indoor pool, about 25 minutes' drive west, is the nearest alternative when the main pool here is closed.
