Scam – misleading and disappointing We arrived at the automated gate only to find out we had to go through the app and add our plate number for the gate to open. I booked Zone A, which turned out to be tent only – something the app was completely misleading about. After going back and forth with the guesthouse reception, the staff sent us to “Zone D,” which is basically just a public parking lot far from the actual campsite. Facilities themselves were okay, but they were far from Zone D: - 1 toilet + 1 shower for men - 1 toilet + 1 shower for women - A laundry room No kitchen, no common area, no Wi-Fi. Paying almost 5,000 ISK just to park in a public lot is a complete scam. Don’t be fooled by the review pictures – those are from the guesthouse, not the camping area.
We can’t comment on zones A, B, or C, but if you book Zone D, be aware that it’s not located within the main campground. It’s actually a parking lot a few minutes away, on a regular street. To access Zone D, you have to drive around the park, which means it can be noisy and is accessible to anyone, not just campers. There is no kitchen available in this area. The toilets were okay, but there were only two per gender, and just one shower, which was not very clean. Overall, it’s important to know what you’re booking to avoid surprises.
Campsite is situated between Reykjavik and the airport. Pay up at the Lava hostel reception its quite expensive at 5300isk for campervan and 2 adults without electric hook up, your paying for the location. It's a level site between trees. While we were there It seemed to be a collection and drop off area for Roma camper vehicles with roof tents so it was quite noisy with people opening and closing doors while checking there campers until late night and early morning see picture off them all lined up. Facilities are small but clean and well kept there is a code to enter the facilities which are heated and have hot water. There are no plugs in the washing up facility sinks which is quite common for Iceland campsites. There are no kitchen facilities. Shower was clean although didn't look nice as the wall is stained but it was a good shower with room to hang things up and change.
