About Hegranes Camping ground
Hegranes camping ground is a group campsite at Félagsheimilið Hegranes, a community hall on the Hegranes peninsula in Skagafjörður, North Iceland, about 10 minutes' drive from Sauðárkrókur. Groups book the private field and the hall together, which makes it a good fit for a choir trip or a family reunion.
The site is for groups only, so solo travelers and couples can't just turn up with a tent. For a single night, head to Sauðárkrókur Campground or Camping Varmahlíð instead, both run by the same operator.
What a group gets is space indoors when the weather turns. The hall is about 270 square meters and seats around 110 people at its own tables and chairs, with four toilets and a kitchen that has a dishwasher, fridge, stove and coffee maker. Up to 20 people can sleep inside, and outside there's electricity for up to 10 vehicles.
The operator charges a flat group rate per 24 hours or per weekend, with cleaning billed on top. Season dates for Hegranes aren't posted separately, so contact the operator by phone or email to check availability before you plan around it.
The peninsula itself is low farmland between the two arms of the Héraðsvötn river, close to where they reach the sea. From the hall, it's a short drive to the pool and shops in Sauðárkrókur, and the Glaumbær turf farm museum is roughly 20 minutes away.
