Hraunsnef
About Hraunsnef
Hraunsnef is a country hotel in Norðurárdalur, in the Borgarfjörður region of West Iceland, with outdoor geothermal nature baths that are open to non-guests. The baths were added in summer 2025, when the hotel marked 20 years in business. They sit on the Ring Road, about 6 km from Bifröst, which makes them an easy stop between Reykjavík and North Iceland.
The 2025 nature baths have a hot pool, a cold tub, a wading area and a sauna, with a new changing and reception building. Separately, the hotel has two hot tubs beside a small stream for its guests. The baths use geothermal hot water.
Hraunsnef is on Route 1, about 35 km north of Borgarnes and roughly 100 km from Reykjavík. Within half an hour's drive are Deildartunguhver, Europe's highest-flow hot spring, and the Hraunfossar waterfalls, and the Grábrók crater is just up the road near Bifröst.
Entry is 4,900 ISK for adults and 3,500 ISK for children aged 3–12, and children under 3 are free. Hotel guests get 20% off. Swimsuits and towels can be rented for 1,500 ISK each, robes for 2,000 ISK and swim shoes for 2,500 ISK. No separate online booking for the baths is advertised.
The baths are seasonal, open April to October from 12:00 to 21:00, sometimes later in good weather, and hours depend on conditions. They are closed in winter; sources differ on whether March is included, so check with the hotel before an early-spring visit.
