About Íþróttamiðstöðin í Reykholti
Íþróttamiðstöðin í Reykholti is the sports centre and swimming pool of Reykholt in Biskupstungur, the geothermal greenhouse village on the Golden Circle between Geysir and Flúðir in South Iceland. It is run by Bláskógabyggð municipality and stands a few hundred metres from the Friðheimar tomato greenhouse.
The pool is currently closed for a complete rebuild. The municipality closed the pool area in September 2025 for about a year, and as of late September 2026 its website still says the pool and gym are shut for the renewal work, while the sports hall remains open. The old outdoor pool was a wooden structure lined with a tarpaulin, and the roughly 800 million ISK project replaces it with a new concrete pool, new hot tubs, a water slide and a steam bath. Completion was targeted for September 2026, but no confirmed reopening date has been published.
Once it reopens, the pool will be a useful stop on a Golden Circle day, especially for anyone staying in the Reykholt, Laugarás or Flúðir area. Until then, the nearest options are the Flúðir municipal pool and the Secret Lagoon at Flúðir, both about 10 minutes' drive south, and the pool and Fontana baths at Laugarvatn to the west.
Opening hours and prices for the new facility have not yet been announced, so check the Bláskógabyggð website or phone the sports centre on 480 3040 before planning a swim here. The previous tariff is not a reliable guide to what the rebuilt pool will charge.
