Jaðarsbakkalaug is the main public swimming pool in Akranes, the coastal town about 45 minutes' drive north of Reykjavík through the Hvalfjörður tunnel. It stands by Innnesvegur in the Jaðarsbakkar sports area, a short walk from Langisandur beach, and shares its reception with a World Class gym.
The facilities are a 25-metre outdoor pool, hot tubs, a steam room and a water slide. There are indoor and outdoor changing rooms, including two wheelchair-accessible changing rooms. On weekdays school swimming can close lanes or the main pool for a while, but the hot tubs and slide stay open.
The pool opens from 06:30 to 22:00 on weekdays and from 09:00 to 19:00 at weekends, so it suits an early swim before driving on to Borgarnes and Snæfellsnes or an evening soak after a day in town. A visit pairs well with Guðlaug, the small tiered bathing pool built into the sea wall at Langisandur, which is open all year and has its own separate tariff.
Under the Akranes tariff in force from 1 January 2026, adults pay 1,190 ISK for a single swim and 6,880 ISK for a ten-visit card. Children up to 9 swim free, ages 10–15 pay 355 ISK and ages 16–18 pay 595 ISK. Seniors get 50% off and disabled visitors with certification swim free. Towel or swimsuit hire costs 1,035 ISK, or 1,550 ISK for both. Public-holiday hours can differ from the normal timetable.
