Incredible hike. Challanging but fun and definately worth it. There’s a parking spot also so you can drive up to it if you’re not feeling like hiking much.
This is an incredible place to visit if you want to get the feel of real Iceland or you’re into geology, but it’s not an easy drive to get to this middle-of-nowhere point, you must have a 4x4 car and neither it has an easy access, you need proper waterproof shoes, walk carefully and expect a ton of orange mud sticking to your boots and pants. Already the start of the hike is a very steep climb down muddy “stairs” and as someone with heights fear I struggled a bit but it was worth it to get down to the river. We didn’t do a proper circle, just walked around the bottom mostly but still spent easily an hour. It has the coolest loo at the parking lot in the triangle hut, first we didn’t even notice it was a loo :D Also, expect it to smell a lot, the sulfur stench is really strong here.
The must stunning place in Iceland! Worth going there from Reykjavik! You have plenty of hiking trails with a different level of difficulty, parking is small but sufficient! It’s worth going there regardless the weather and season!
