About Laugardalslaug

Laugardalslaug is a geothermal swimming pool complex at Sundlaugavegur 30 in the Laugardalur valley, about 3 kilometers east of downtown Reykjavík. It's the largest swimming pool in Iceland, and on a winter evening its hot tubs fill with office workers, retirees and families talking politics through the steam.

If you want to see how Reykjavík actually unwinds, this is the place. The centerpiece is a 50-meter outdoor pool, with an indoor competition pool beside it, and around them you'll find several hot pots at different temperatures, a saltwater tub, a whirlpool, a cold tub and a steam room.

Kids get a wading pool, a children's pool and water slides, and there's also an accessible pool with private changing rooms. Outside the complex are two beach volleyball courts and running routes through the valley. Because the water is geothermally heated, the outdoor pools stay open all year, snow and darkness included.

Laugardalslaug opening hours are 06:30–22:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00–22:00 on weekends, and holiday hours can differ. Early mornings and weekday evenings are the busiest with locals. From late August through June, parts of the pool can be set aside for school swimming and training.

Under the fee schedule in force since May 5, 2026, adults pay 1,500 ISK and children aged 10 to 17 pay 400 ISK, while kids under 10 swim free with an adult. Towel rental is 860 ISK and swimsuit rental 1,270 ISK. A swim pass can also be added to the Reykjavík City Card, and as at every Icelandic pool, you shower without a swimsuit before getting in.

The pool is an easy bus ride or a 35-minute walk from downtown. An hour or two is plenty for a swim and a long soak, and with the Reykjavík Family Park and Zoo and the Botanic Garden next door, it's easy to turn the pool into a half day in the valley.
