About Mosskogar Camping

Mosskógar is a family-run campsite in Mosfellsdalur, the valley above the town of Mosfellsbær, roughly 17 km from central Reykjavík. It shares its land with a vegetable farm and tree nursery, and the pitches are green and sheltered, which makes it a quieter alternative to camping inside the city while staying within easy reach of it.

The campsite takes tents, caravans, campervans and motorhomes, and there are small huts. Listed facilities include toilets, showers, electricity hook-ups, washing machines and dryers, and a motorhome waste disposal point. Instead of an ordinary kitchen block, campers cook and eat in a greenhouse, and there is a covered space large enough for groups of up to 60 people. On Saturdays from July to October the farm runs a vegetable market, and trees and plants are sold all year.

The site is a practical first or last night for a road trip: it is close to Reykjavík but already on the way to Þingvellir and the Golden Circle, and Mount Esja is nearby for a day hike. In the valley itself there is a golf course at Bakkakot, horse rental at Laxnes and a small farm zoo at Hraðastaðir, and Mosfellsbær has swimming pools and shops.

The official listing gives the season as 1 March to 15 December, though some directories give 1 December as the closing date, so confirm late in the year.
