About Lágafellslaug
Lágafellslaug is the larger of Mosfellsbær's two public pools, located at the Lágafell sports centre at Lækjarhlíð 1a, roughly 15–20 minutes' drive north-east of central Reykjavík. It is a modern leisure and fitness complex used heavily by local families, and it is one of the best-equipped pools in the capital area.
Outdoors there is a 25-metre competition pool, a children's pool, a wading pool and three waterslides. The hot-pot area has two hot tubs, a massage tub and a cold tub, and inside you will find a steam bath, an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna. An indoor pool with an adjustable floor is used for lessons and swimming classes; on winter weekdays school groups use it until about 18:00 or 20:00, so ask at reception if you want to swim indoors.
Opening hours are long. From 1 June to 31 August the pool opens Monday to Friday 06:30–22:00 and at weekends 08:00–21:00. In winter weekday hours stay the same, and weekends run 08:00–19:00. Late evenings on weekdays are the quietest time, while weekend afternoons draw families to the slides.
A single adult ticket costs 1,300 ISK. Children under 18, seniors aged 67 and over and disabled visitors swim free, which makes it one of the cheapest family swims in the region. An annual pass is also sold.
Mosfellsbær sits on Route 1 just before the road heads north towards Hvalfjörður and west Iceland, so Lágafellslaug is a convenient stop at the start or end of a drive. Strætó buses from Reykjavík serve the town. Showering without a swimsuit before entering the pool is required.
