About Skagaströnd Campsite
Skagaströnd campsite is the municipal campground of Skagaströnd, a small town on the east side of Húnaflói bay in North-West Iceland, about 266 km by road from Reykjavík. The site sits at the top of Bogabraut in a sheltered, quiet spot, protected from northerly and easterly winds by the low Hólaberg cliffs.
The grounds are divided into areas for tents, motorhomes, caravans and campervans, with electricity hook-ups at some pitches and play equipment for children. The service building has toilets, showers, washing machines and a dryer, an indoor dining area and a washing-up station, which makes the site comfortable in poor weather as well as fine.
The campsite is open from 1 May to 15 September. Prices for 2026 are ISK 2,500 per adult per night, ISK 1,600 for seniors and disabled guests, and free for children under 14, plus a lodging tax of ISK 400. Electricity costs ISK 1,500, showers ISK 500, and the washing machine and dryer ISK 800 each. Contact the campsite by phone or email with questions about space or facilities.
Skagaströnd is a good stop for walkers and birdwatchers. Jónsstígur is a one-kilometre walking trail through a small wood with a bench along the way, and the headland of Spákonufellshöfði has an observation hut for watching seabirds. The town's swimming pool and a golf course are within easy reach of the campsite. Further afield, Blönduós is on the Ring Road to the south, and the Vatnsnes peninsula with the Hvítserkur sea stack lies across the bay.
