What other travelers are saying about

Svínafellsjökull Glacier

Stunning views of the Glacier. The road to the parking lot is gravel, but a typical gravel road so it's not hard or anything. The parking lot is massive so you will always find a spot. Short walk to the viewing area. All around beautiful.

Walking up to Svínafellsjökull feels like stepping straight into a science fiction movie like interstellar. Unlike more crowded glacier spots, Svínafellsjökull offers a quieter, more intimate experience. You can get incredibly close to the ice without needing a tour, just a short walk from the parking area. Standing at the edge, staring into its frozen depths, you truly feel like you’ve left Earth.

Surprisingly easy to access area for breathtaking views of the glacier. It's wild to be able to experience a glacier in such an intimate setting. After arriving, it's a pretty big parking lot but also well subscribed. A moderate amount of other people as you walk up the well-paved path towards the glacier for some stunning views. If adventurous, hike over to the left and continue along the mountainside toward the left side of the glacier for closer views. It gets a bit rocky / steep but was much less crowded and gives you a meditative experience. We then finished a loop around the area before returning to the parking lot.
