About Systragil Camping Ground
Systragil is a campsite in Fnjóskadalur valley in North Iceland, on Road 833 about 2 km from the Ring Road (Route 1). It sits on higher ground among trees beside a spring, overlooking Vaglaskógur forest, and the campsite gives Akureyri as its nearest town at 16 km.
The site takes tents, caravans and motorhomes, with electricity available. Facilities include heated toilets, hot water and showers, a cooking area, a washing machine and dryer, a waste disposal point for motorhomes and a children's playground. The sheltered, wooded setting makes it a calmer alternative to camping in Akureyri itself, while still being close enough to drive into town for shops, restaurants and the swimming pool.
Systragil is well placed for touring the north-east. Goðafoss is about 25 km away, the Mývatn area 60–75 km, and there is a 9-hole golf course at Lundsvöllur about 3 km from the campsite. Walks in Vaglaskógur forest are right on the doorstep.
The campsite is open from 26 May to 30 September. Prices for summer 2026 are ISK 2,000 per adult per night, ISK 1,700 for those aged 67 and over, and free for children under 15, plus an accommodation tax of ISK 400 per unit per night. Electricity costs ISK 1,200 per day and a laundry wash ISK 1,000.
