About Tálknafjörður Swimming Pool
Tálknafjörður Swimming Pool is the outdoor pool at the sports centre in Tálknafjörður, a small fishing village in the southern Westfjords between Patreksfjörður and Bíldudalur. The centre, at Sveinseyri on the edge of the village, is run by the municipality of Vesturbyggð and also has a sports hall and a gym.
The pool is a 25-metre outdoor pool, with hot tubs, a children's wading pool and a waterslide. It is a full-length pool in a village of only a few hundred people, and the setting on the shore of a narrow fjord with steep mountains on both sides makes it a pleasant, quiet place to swim.
The village campsite is right next to the sports centre, so campers can use the pool and its showers easily. Tálknafjörður is a short drive over the mountain road from Patreksfjörður, which makes it a good alternative base for Látrabjarg, Rauðasandur and Dynjandi.
Summer hours are 09:00–20:30 on weekdays and 10:00–18:00 at weekends. Winter hours, from around 19 August, are 08:00–20:00 Monday to Thursday, 08:00–19:00 on Fridays, 10:00–15:00 on Saturdays and 10:00–14:00 on Sundays. Ticket sales end 30 minutes before closing and swimmers must leave the water 15 minutes before closing.
The 2026 municipal tariff lists adult single entry at 1,378 ISK and 689 ISK for seniors and disabled visitors, with free entry for everyone under 18; the facility's own page still shows a slightly lower adult price, so confirm at the desk. A ten-visit adult card costs 8,747 ISK, a shower without swimming 667 ISK, and towels and swimsuits can be rented for 994 ISK each.
