About Vatnaveröld
Vatnaveröld (Water World) is the covered water-play park at Sundmiðstöðin, the main swimming centre of Reykjanesbær, on Sunnubraut in Keflavík. It is a popular choice for families, both locals and travellers staying near Keflavík Airport.
The water park itself is an indoor hall of heated water with play equipment for younger children, so it works in any weather. The same building has what the municipality calls one of the finest 50-metre indoor pools in Iceland, used for lane swimming and competitions, and outside there is a 25-metre outdoor pool, four hot tubs and a steam bath.
The centre opens on weekdays 06:30–21:30 and at weekends 09:00–18:00, and swimmers have 10 minutes after closing to leave. It is closed on New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, 1 May, Whit Sunday, 17 June and Christmas Day, closes at 11:30 on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and opens 09:00–17:00 on other public holidays.
From 1 January 2026 a single adult ticket costs 1,300 ISK. Children aged 10–18, seniors aged 67 and over and disabled visitors pay 240 ISK, and children under 10 swim free but must be accompanied by a swimmer aged 15 or older. Swimwear and towel rental costs 950 ISK, and ten-visit and annual cards also work at Stapalaug.
Vatnaveröld is about 10 minutes' drive from Keflavík Airport, which makes it a practical stop for families on arrival or departure day, and a far cheaper alternative to the Blue Lagoon for a warm soak. Showering without a swimsuit is required before entering the water.
