Vesturbæjarlaug is the neighbourhood geothermal pool of Vesturbær, the old west end of Reykjavík. It sits on Hofsvallagata, a residential street about 20 minutes' walk from the city centre and close to the University of Iceland and the National Museum. Locals often name it as their favourite pool in the city because of its relaxed, community atmosphere.

The outdoor 25-metre pool is surrounded by several hot tubs at different temperatures, a cold tub, a steam bath and saunas, including a sauna accessible to disabled visitors. Families use the children's pool, the wading pool and the small water slide. The hot tubs are where much of the social life happens, and early mornings bring regulars who come for a swim and a chat before work.

The pool is open all year, and a soak in the hot tubs on a dark winter evening or in light snow is one of the most local things you can do in Reykjavík. From late August to June, parts of the pool can be reserved for school swimming and club training, so lane swimmers may prefer early mornings or later evenings. The steam bath is always closed on Fridays from 13:00 to 15:00 for cleaning, and at weekends the saunas open at 10:00.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday 06:30–22:00 and Saturday and Sunday 09:00–22:00. Under the city tariff valid from 5 May 2026, adult entry is 1,500 ISK, children aged 10 to 17 pay 400 ISK, and children under 10 swim free with an adult. Swimwear rental costs 1,270 ISK and a towel 860 ISK. Entry is included in the Reykjavík City Card. Remember to shower without a swimsuit before entering the pool.
