Day-by-day itinerary
A starting point, not a fixed route — request the full itinerary and we adjust it to your dates and pace.
Day 1: The Golden Circle
Your adventure begins with the legendary Golden Circle, a route that captures Iceland’s essence — history, geology, and natural power.
Start at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart. Here, you’ll walk through a stunning rift valley surrounded by rugged cliffs and crystal-clear springs.
Continue to the Geysir Geothermal Area, home to steaming vents, bubbling pools, and the incredible Strokkur geyser, which shoots boiling water high into the air every few minutes.
End your day at Gullfoss Waterfall, where glacial water cascades down two tiers into a dramatic canyon — a perfect example of Iceland’s raw natural force.
Optional Add-On: Experience an unforgettable horseback riding tour through peaceful countryside landscapes.
Day 2: South Coast Adventure & Ice Cave
Travel along the spectacular South Coast, where every stop reveals another wonder. Begin at Seljalandsfoss, the waterfall you can walk behind for a one-of-a-kind view, then visit Skógafoss, a towering curtain of water often crowned with rainbows.
Head next to Dyrhólaey Peninsula, offering sweeping coastal views, and then continue to the world-famous Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, where basalt cliffs meet crashing Atlantic waves.
The highlight of the day is an exhilarating Super Jeep ride to the Katla Ice Cave — a natural masterpiece formed by fire and ice. Inside, admire glittering blue ice streaked with volcanic ash, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.
Spend the night near the charming seaside village of Vík, surrounded by cliffs and black sands.
Day 3: Glacier Hike & Diamond Beach
The day begins with an unforgettable glacier hike led by a professional guide. Equipped with crampons and an ice axe, you’ll explore shimmering blue ice, deep crevasses, and incredible frozen formations on one of Europe’s largest glaciers.
Next, head to the world-famous Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where huge icebergs float serenely in crystal waters. Join a boat ride to get up close to these majestic ice sculptures.
Right across the road lies Diamond Beach, where pieces of ice wash ashore and glisten like jewels on the black sand. This surreal sight offers some of the best photo opportunities in Iceland.
End your day with a relaxing evening in the scenic southeast region.
Day 4: Through the East Fjords
Enjoy a peaceful journey through the East Fjords, a region known for its quiet fishing villages, twisting coastal roads, and mountain views that meet the sea. Keep an eye out for wild reindeer roaming the hills — a rare and beautiful sight.
Travel alongside Lake Lagarfljót, said to be home to a legendary serpent-like creature, adding a touch of folklore to your scenic route.
In the afternoon, unwind at the optional Vök Baths, where floating geothermal pools overlook a serene lake. Soak in naturally warm waters and enjoy a moment of tranquility surrounded by nature before heading to your hotel in East Iceland.
Day 5: Wonders of North Iceland
Today you’ll experience the dramatic contrasts of North Iceland. Start at Stuðlagil Canyon, famous for its symmetrical basalt columns and turquoise glacial river — a photographer’s dream.
Continue to the Lake Mývatn area, where you’ll explore Dimmuborgir, a maze of lava pillars and arches, and Námaskarð, a colorful geothermal field filled with bubbling mud pools and steaming vents.
Later, marvel at the sheer power of Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall, before visiting the graceful Goðafoss, known as the “Waterfall of the Gods.”
Spend the night in Akureyri, the lively “Capital of the North,” known for its charming streets, gardens, and mountain views.
Day 6: Whale Watching & Return to Reykjavík
On your final day, enjoy the peaceful beauty of North Iceland. Travel from Akureyri to the small fishing village of Hauganes, surrounded by mountains and calm ocean views.
Here, you’ll set out on a whale watching tour in Eyjafjörður Fjord. Watch for majestic humpback whales, playful dolphins, and seabirds as your boat glides through crystal waters — a magical experience and the perfect farewell to your adventure.
Afterward, begin the scenic drive back to Reykjavík, arriving in the evening with memories of Iceland’s diverse landscapes and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
