When is a multi-day tour better than day trips?
Once you want to go beyond about 200 km from Reykjavík, day trips stop making sense. Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is 377 km east — reachable in a very long day, but a 2-day trip turns 12 hours of driving into two comfortable halves with an overnight on the South Coast. The same logic applies to the Snæfellsnes peninsula and the north.
What is included?
Multi-day tours bundle transport, a guide and accommodation, and often some meals. The practical advantage is that someone else has already solved the winter driving, the hotel bookings in a country with limited rural capacity, and the ordering of sites so you are not backtracking.
