Overview

Discover Iceland's South Coast on a ten-hour small-group journey through waterfall country, volcanic landscapes and black-sand coastline. The route links Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara, Vík and the Sólheimajökull glacier viewpoint.

Walk close to two major waterfalls, see the Reynisdrangar sea stacks from Reynisfjara and Vík, and follow the path from the Sólheimajökull parking area toward the glacier viewpoint. The glacier stop is for sightseeing only; a glacier hike is not included.

Pickup and return are available at selected Reykjavík locations. The trip includes an English-speaking driver-guide, minibus transport and onboard Wi-Fi, with no more than 19 guests per guide.

Itinerary

The shape of your day

  1. Start

    Pickup in Reykjavík

    Pickup begins at the booked departure time from selected hotels, guesthouses and bus stops in Reykjavík. Collection can take up to 30 minutes.

  2. Skógafoss

    Visit the approximately 60-metre-high, 25-metre-wide waterfall from its base or climb the steps for an elevated view. The usual stop is around 40 to 50 minutes.

  3. Reynisfjara

    See the black-sand beach, basalt columns and Reynisdrangar sea stacks. Stay well back from the water and follow the guide's safety instructions because sneaker waves can be powerful and unpredictable.

  4. Vík

    Stop in the South Coast fishing village for views over the coast and the Reynisdrangar formations.

  5. Sólheimajökull viewpoint

    Walk roughly 15 minutes from the parking area toward the outlet glacier for a guided sightseeing stop. The visit does not include walking on the ice or a glacier hike.

  6. Seljalandsfoss

    Approach the approximately 60-metre waterfall and, when seasonal conditions allow, follow the wet path behind its curtain of water.

  7. End

    Return to Reykjavík

    Travel back to the selected Reykjavík drop-off location after the final waterfall stop.

Know before you go

  • The tour lasts approximately 10 hours.
  • The activity is rated easy, but the walk toward Sólheimajökull is moderate. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
  • A glacier hike is not included; the Sólheimajökull stop is for sightseeing from the accessible viewpoint route.
  • Bring warm layers and rain gear. The path behind Seljalandsfoss is wet and may close when conditions are unsafe.
  • The minimum age is 6. Child-priced tickets cover ages 6 to 12, and adult pricing starts at age 13.
  • Lunch is not included. The planned meal break is at Reynisfjara.
  • At Reynisfjara, remain well away from the surf and obey the guide's safety instructions.

Does the tour include a glacier hike?

No. The Sólheimajökull stop includes a walk toward the glacier viewpoint and guided sightseeing, but guests do not walk on the ice.
