Join us on a private ice cave adventure starting from the town of Vík in South Iceland. This tour takes you to the stunning Katla glacier, which flows from the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier. With at least 90 minutes at the site, you'll have time to explore more than one ice cave and hike across the glacier. The beautiful blue ice and frozen formations make it a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
The tour also includes a stop at Hjörleifshöfði, a remote coastal area known for its dramatic landscapes. You'll travel through rugged terrain, cruise along black sand beaches, and enjoy a real Super Jeep ride. With breathtaking views, raw natural beauty, and a sense of adventure, this tour offers a deeper look into Iceland’s wild side.
Departure from Vík
Your guide will meet you at the bus parking lot behind the Ice Cave Café in Vík. After a short briefing, we’ll hop into a Super Jeep and begin our off-road journey towards the Katla glacier.
Katla Ice Cave Exploration
Arriving at the edge of the Katla glacier, we gear up with provided safety equipment. We’ll then begin exploring the fascinating ice caves formed by meltwater and glacial movement. You’ll spend time inside at least one cave (more if conditions allow), and enjoy a short hike on the glacier itself. This part of the tour is about fully experiencing the icy terrain, not just a quick photo stop.
Hjörleifshöfði and Yoda Cave
After exploring the glacier, we’ll head toward Hjörleifshöfði — a massive, moss-covered rock that once stood as an island before being surrounded by volcanic ash in 1918. Here, we’ll share stories from Iceland’s early settlers and visit the famous Yoda Cave, known for its resemblance to the Star Wars character.
Black Sand Beach Drive
To finish, we take you on a scenic drive along a secluded black sand beach, far from the usual tourist spots. This is where the raw Icelandic coast truly shines — wild, windswept, and dramatic. It’s also a perfect spot for a few last photos and unforgettable memories.
