About Ásvallalaug

Ásvallalaug is Hafnarfjörður's big indoor swimming centre at Ásvellir 2, in the Vellir district on the southern edge of town, about 20 minutes' drive from central Reykjavík. The municipality describes it as the largest swimming centre in Iceland, with a building of around 6,000 square metres, and it is the capital area's best choice when the weather makes an outdoor pool unappealing.

The centrepiece is a 50-metre indoor pool that a movable bridge can divide into two 25-metre sections, used by swim clubs as well as the public. Families have a children's pool at about 32°C, a wading pool with toys and an indoor waterslide. There are three indoor hot tubs and two outdoor ones, a steam bath and a sunbathing area. Accessibility is well thought through, with accessible parking, changing rooms with shower chairs, a Poolpod lift into the larger pools, a movable lift, and handrails on the steps into pools and tubs.

Opening hours are Monday to Thursday 06:30–22:00, Friday 06:30–20:00, Saturday 08:00–18:00 and Sunday 08:00–17:00. Early mornings and late weekday evenings are quietest; weekend mornings are busy with families.

A single adult ticket costs 1,250 ISK in 2026, and ten-visit cards and passes are sold. Children under 18, seniors aged 67 and over and holders of a disability certificate swim free.

Because it is indoors, Ásvallalaug works well year-round and in bad weather, and it is a practical stop on the way to or from Keflavík Airport, which is about 35 minutes further along Route 41. As at every Icelandic pool, you must shower without a swimsuit before swimming.
