About Suðurbæjarlaug
Suðurbæjarlaug is a geothermal public pool in the southern part of Hafnarfjörður, the harbour town about 10 km south of central Reykjavík. It stands at Hringbraut 77 and is one of three municipal pools in the town, alongside Ásvallalaug and the historic Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar.
The main pool is a 12.5 × 25-metre outdoor pool, connected to an indoor training pool. Around it are three hot tubs, a steam bath, two cold tubs, two waterslides and a wading pool with a mushroom spray fountain, which makes it one of the better family pools in the capital area. Massage therapy is also offered on site. It is a working community pool, so school swimming, club training and aqua-fitness classes can take up lanes at certain times.
For visitors it is a good alternative to the busier Reykjavík pools and costs a fraction of a lagoon ticket. Early mornings and weekday evenings are quieter for lane swimming, while weekend afternoons are busiest with families. The outdoor pool and hot tubs are used all year, including on dark winter evenings.
Opening hours are Monday to Thursday 06:30–22:00, Friday 06:30–20:00, Saturday 08:00–18:00 and Sunday 08:00–21:00. Adult admission is 1,250 ISK. Children under 18, seniors and disabled visitors swim free, as at all Hafnarfjörður pools. A swimsuit or towel can be rented for 940 ISK each, or 1,450 ISK for both. Shower without a swimsuit before entering the pool. The pool can be reached on 565 3080, and city buses serve Hafnarfjörður from Reykjavík.
