About Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar

Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar is the oldest swimming pool in Hafnarfjörður, the harbour town about 10 km south of central Reykjavík. It stands at Herjólfsgata 10b near the seafront and is run by the town. An outdoor pool opened on this site at Krosseyrarmalir in 1943, and it was roofed over to create the present swimming hall in 1953.

This is a traditional lap-swimming hall rather than a leisure pool. The indoor pool is 25 metres long and 8.7 metres wide and reaches 3.2 metres at its deepest point. Outside there are two hot tubs with massage jets, and the men's and women's changing rooms each have their own sauna. There are no slides or children's pools, so families with young children may prefer Suðurbæjarlaug or Ásvallalaug in the same town.

The opening hours are unusual: the pool is open only on weekdays, from 06:30 to 21:00, and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. It is also closed on most public holidays. That makes it best suited to an early-morning or after-work swim; at weekends use one of Hafnarfjörður's other two pools.

A single adult entry (ages 18–66) costs 1,250 ISK. Children and teenagers up to 17 and seniors aged 67 and over swim free. Hafnarfjörður's campsite is a short drive away, so the pool is also handy for campers who want a hot shower and a soak on a weekday. The pool follows the standard Icelandic rule of showering without a swimsuit before entering the water.
