About Eskifjörður Swimming Pool
Eskifjörður Swimming Pool is the municipal outdoor pool of Eskifjörður, a fishing town on the northern shore of Reyðarfjörður in the Eastfjords. It is run by Fjarðabyggð and sits at Dalbraut 3a, a short walk from the harbour and the town centre.
The pool is aimed at families and locals rather than spa-goers, which keeps it inexpensive. Facilities include a heated outdoor lane pool, hot tubs, a steam bath, a children's paddling pool and three waterslides, and there is a gym in the same sports centre. Swimming outdoors here gives views up to the mountains that ring the fjord, including Hólmatindur across the bay.
Opening hours change with the season. From 1 June to 31 August it opens Monday to Friday 07:00–21:00 and at weekends 10:00–18:00. From 1 September to 31 May it opens Monday to Thursday 07:00–20:00, Friday 07:00–18:00 and at weekends 11:00–16:00. Early weekday mornings and weekday evenings are when local lane swimmers come; afternoons after school are busiest with children on the slides.
A single adult ticket costs 1,145 ISK, teenagers aged 16–17 pay 325 ISK and children under 16 swim free, with multi-visit cards also sold. The municipality occasionally closes the pool for maintenance, so check its notices before a special trip.
Eskifjörður lies about 15 minutes' drive from Reyðarfjörður on the Ring Road and around 45 minutes from Egilsstaðir, so the pool makes an easy stop on an Eastfjords drive. As at every Icelandic pool, you must shower without a swimsuit before entering the water.
