About Hauganes Camping Area
Hauganes Camping Area is a small campsite in the fishing village of Hauganes in Dalvíkurbyggð, on the outer part of Eyjafjörður in North Iceland. It is in a quiet spot about 20 minutes' drive from Akureyri and 10 minutes from Dalvík. There are two camping areas: the original site and a flat meadow above it, where 36 new electrical outlets were installed in summer 2025.
The campsite has toilets, showers, dishwashing facilities, a washing machine, electricity and a playground with new equipment. Its best feature is the village's sandy beach, where Fjöruböðin, the Hauganes beach baths, has hot tubs and showers by the sea; new toilets have also been added beside the tubs. A service house by the tubs has a card machine and sells drinks, ice cream and souvenirs.
The 2026 rates are ISK 2,400 per adult per night; ISK 1,800 for 16 to 18-year-olds, seniors and disabled guests; ISK 900 for children aged 12 to 15; and free for children 11 and under. The lodging tax, showers and washing machine are included. The hot tubs are charged separately at ISK 2,800 for adults and ISK 1,000 for children aged 6 to 12, with under-6s free. For 2026 the campsite was listed as opening on 15 June; the closing date is not published, so check before a late-season visit. Pay online in advance, at the service house or at Baccalá bar, and keep your receipt, as staff may ask to see it. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
By the harbour, Baccalá bar serves food, and the Ektafiskur fish shop and a souvenir shop share the same building. Whale-watching boats sail from Hauganes several times a day in summer. Dalvík, with its swimming pool, is about 10 minutes away by car.
