Heiðarbær Swimming Pool

About Heiðarbær Swimming Pool

Heiðarbær Swimming Pool is a small, family-run outdoor pool with a hot pot at Heiðarbær in Reykjahverfi, about 17 km south of Húsavík in North Iceland. The pool shares the site with a campsite and a small restaurant, and the owners also run a geothermal greenhouse across the road where they grow vegetables used in the kitchen.

It is a quieter alternative to the town pool in Húsavík. The pool itself is modest, with changing rooms, showers and sun loungers, and swim fins and towels can be hired. For travellers on a whale-watching trip to Húsavík or driving between Húsavík and Mývatn, it makes an easy stop for a swim and a soak without the crowds of the larger bathing sites.

The published hours are daily from 10:00 to 22:00, which gives time for an evening swim after a day of sightseeing. The campsite is open from 15 June to 31 August and the restaurant serves dinner from 18:00 to 20:30. Outside the summer months it is worth phoning ahead to confirm the pool is open, as this is a small private operation.

Admission is 1,200 ISK for adults, 900 ISK for seniors and disabled visitors, 500 ISK for children aged 6–16, and free for younger children. A shower on its own costs 500 ISK, as does towel or swim-fin hire. The price list does not show an effective date, so small changes are possible. Campers staying at Heiðarbær pay the pool fee on top of the camping charge.
