About Hella Swimming Pool

Hella Swimming Pool (Sundlaugin á Hellu) is the outdoor pool in Hella, a village on the Ring Road by the Ytri-Rangá river in South Iceland. It opened in 1984 and is attached to the town sports hall. Its 25 by 11 metre pool is certified for competitions.

As well as the main pool there is a jacuzzi, two hot tubs, two wading pools and three water slides, two large and one small. There is also a steam bath, a wooden sauna, an infrared sauna and a sunbathing area, which makes it a good stop for families.

The pool is at Útskálar 4, just off Route 1. Hella is about 94 km, roughly an hour and a half, from Reykjavík and about 35 minutes from Seljalandsfoss, so it works well as a stop on a South Coast drive or as a base for trips towards Hekla and Landmannalaugar.

Under the 2026 price list, visitors aged 16 and over pay 1,500 ISK, ages 10–15 pay 500 ISK, and seniors and disabled visitors pay 750 ISK. A 10-visit adult card is 7,500 ISK, and swimsuit and towel rental is 1,500 ISK.

Weekday hours are 06:30–21:00 all year. At weekends the pool opens 10:00–19:00 in summer (late May to mid-August) and 10:00–16:00 in winter. Other public holidays are 10:00–16:00, and the pool is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. The exact date the summer timetable changes varies between sources, so check around late May and August.
