About Hvolsvöllur Swimming Pool
Hvolsvöllur Swimming Pool is the public pool of Hvolsvöllur, the small town on the Ring Road in South Iceland that serves as the gateway to Þórsmörk, Fljótshlíð and the Eyjafjallajökull area. It is part of the municipal sports centre in the middle of town, a short walk from Route 1, the LAVA Centre volcano exhibition and the town's shops and petrol stations.
The outdoor pool is 25 metres long, with two hot tubs, a wading pool, a water slide and a steam bath, plus indoor and outdoor changing rooms. It is a practical, low-cost place to swim and warm up on a South Coast road trip, about 20 km before Seljalandsfoss and around 1 hour 20 minutes' drive from Reykjavík. The same sports centre has a gym and a sports hall.
The pool is open every day of the year. From 1 May to 29 August it opens Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 21:00 and at weekends from 10:00 to 19:00. From 1 September to 30 April weekday hours stay at 06:00 to 21:00, while weekends run from 10:00 to 17:00. On winter weekdays, school swimming can take up part of the pool around the middle of the day.
Under the municipality's tariff valid from 1 January 2026, a single entry for ages 16 and over costs 1,500 ISK. Children aged 12 to 16 and seniors aged 65 and over pay 600 ISK, and children under 12 swim free. Towel and swimsuit rental costs 2,500 ISK per visit. The sports centre can be reached on 488 4200. As at every Icelandic pool, shower without a swimsuit before entering the water.
