Illugastaðir Swimming Pool is a small outdoor pool at Illugastaðir in Fnjóskadalur, a wooded valley east of Akureyri in North Iceland. It is a summer-only pool and a quiet alternative to the busy pools in Akureyri for anyone travelling between Akureyri and Goðafoss.
The facilities are simple: one outdoor swimming pool, two hot tubs and a cold tub. There is no indoor section, so the experience depends on the weather, but on a calm summer day the valley setting makes it a pleasant place for a swim and a soak.
The pool is open only in summer, from early June to around mid-August. In 2026 the late-season timetable from 4 August was 12:00–16:00 every day except Thursday, with bathers allowed to stay in the water for 30 minutes after closing, and the season ended on 22 August. Hours earlier in the summer are announced by the operator, so check the pool's website or its Facebook page for the coming season before you travel. It is closed from late August until the following June.
Single-entry prices in summer 2026 were 1,200 ISK for adults, 600 ISK for seniors and disabled visitors and 400 ISK for children aged 6–16. Ten-visit cards cost 9,600 ISK for adults, 4,800 ISK for seniors and disabled visitors and 3,200 ISK for children. If you find it closed, the pools in Akureyri are the nearest year-round options.
