Interesting statue (1937) of a female figure washing her hands or doing laundry in a water bowl. Worth a look-see if passing through this green and leisure area in Reykjavik

Interesting bit of history if you happen to be walking in the area. Not something to travel to visit. The site of the hot springs which were used for 150 years by the women of Reykyavik to do laundry. They had to carry loads of washing sometimes 3km from the city to this place. Several died by falling into the hot water. Really gives an idea of how hard life used to be. Was also a public swimming pool but long closed. Helpful information boards and some remains of the springs/laundry structure.
