About Reykjaböð Hot Springs

Reykjaböð Hot Springs is a new geothermal bathing complex at the mouth of Reykjadalur valley, just outside Hveragerði and about 35 minutes from Reykjavík. It opens in August 2026.

The site sits in one of the most actively geothermal corners of South Iceland — the same valley where the famous hot river runs, and where steam vents rise straight out of the hillsides. The water in the pools comes from the ground beneath it.

There are two ways to visit. The Hot Springs Pass covers the outdoor ritual area: the geothermal pools, an event sauna, a cold plunge, a Kneipp walking pool for alternating hot and cold, and a bar you can reach from the water. The Hot Springs & Bathhouse Pass adds the indoor bathhouse, a sequence of ten spaces designed to be moved through in order, each one warmer, cooler, darker or brighter than the last. There is also a bistro on site.

For most visitors Reykjaböð works best paired with the valley itself — walk the Reykjadalur trail to the hot river in the morning, then come back down to the pools. It is close enough to Reykjavík to be an evening trip on its own, and it sits directly on the road east towards the Golden Circle and the South Coast.

How far is Reykjaböð from Reykjavík?

About 35 minutes by car, on the road east through Hveragerði. It is roughly 75 minutes from Keflavík Airport, which makes it a realistic first or last stop on a trip.

What is the difference between the two tickets?

The Hot Springs Pass (from ISK 7,900) covers the outdoor area — geothermal pools, event sauna, cold plunge, Kneipp pool and the bar. The Hot Springs & Bathhouse Pass (from ISK 15,900) adds the indoor bathhouse and its ten sensory spaces, and is designed as a longer visit.

Is Reykjaböð the same as the Reykjadalur hot river?

No. The hot river is a natural bathing spot roughly an hour's walk up the Reykjadalur valley, free to use and with no facilities. Reykjaböð is a built complex at the foot of the same valley. They pair well in a single day.

Is there food on site?

Yes — there is a bistro, and a bar you can reach from the water.
