About Salalaug
Salalaug is one of two public pools in Kópavogur, the town directly south of Reykjavík, and sits in the Salir residential area in the upper, south-eastern part of town at Versalir 3. It is about a 20-minute drive from central Reykjavík and is used mainly by local families and swim clubs, which keeps it calmer than the big downtown pools.
The outdoor main pool measures 25 by 15 metres, with six competition lanes and a depth of 1 to 1.6 metres. Next to it is a warm indoor pool of 16.67 by 10 metres, only 75 to 90 cm deep and kept at 33 to 34°C, which suits young children and anyone who prefers to swim out of the wind. The outdoor area has a spa pool with water and air jets, three heated loungers, a water organ with 40 jets, a slide and two hot tubs at 38°C and 42°C.
The mix of a proper lane pool and a warm, shallow indoor pool makes Salalaug a good choice for families visiting the capital area in winter. Summer evenings and weekend mornings are the busiest times.
From 1 May to 30 September the pool opens Monday to Friday 06:30–22:00, Saturday 08:00–20:00 and Sunday 08:00–22:00. From 1 October to 30 April weekday hours stay the same and weekends run from 08:00 to 18:00. A single adult entry costs 1,330 ISK, and children under 18, disabled visitors and people aged 67 and over swim free. Swimsuits and towels can be rented for 730 ISK each. The pool can be reached on 441 8500.
