Sauðárkrókur Swimming Pool is the main public pool of Skagafjörður, located on Skagfirðingabraut in the centre of Sauðárkrókur, the largest town in the district. Run by the municipality, it is where locals come for lane swimming and a long soak, and the municipality itself singles out its hot tubs as among the best in the area.
The outdoor pool measures 25 by 8 metres and ranges from 0.9 to 2.7 metres deep. Around it are hot tubs at about 39°C and 41°C, a cold tub, and a sauna and steam bath. The pool area has been under renovation in 2026: the hot tubs, sauna and steam bath reopened in late June, but some other parts of the pool area remained closed while construction continued, so expect some disruption.
Since reopening, the pool has run on its standard timetable of 07:00–21:00 on weekdays and 10:00–18:00 at weekends. Hours can change during the building work and on public holidays, and the municipality posts updates on its Facebook page, so check before you go.
A single adult ticket costs 1,400 ISK and a ten-visit adult card costs 8,750 ISK. Children aged 7–18 from outside Skagafjörður pay 425 ISK, as do seniors aged 67 and over and disabled visitors, and younger children swim free.
Sauðárkrókur lies about 25 km north of the Ring Road at Varmahlíð, so the pool makes a good stop on a detour to the town, the Glaumbær turf farm or the Tröllaskagi peninsula. The town campsite is right next door. Showering without a swimsuit before entering the water is compulsory.
